Hambone Rondo

from Word by Mad Dog Friedman

/

about

This song has its origins the days of slavery in America. The slaves sang it about how a ham bone gifted to a slave would be shared throughout the slave community and moved around from one pot of beans to the next. I offer my version in tribute to, in sincere appreciation of and as a metaphor for how African American culture and music has stewed in art and help to flavor my pot of beans.

lyrics

ham bone ham bone where you go

ham bone ham bone where you been
